Academic Intervention

Spydar is an educational system designed to support students who are not making academic progress. It works alongside behaviour and attendance data before crawling curriculum modules to ascertain the subjects an individual thrives in. These can then be utilised to develop bespoke schemes of work that can help re-engage individuals in subjects they are not meeting expected progress in.

How it works

Academic progress data is produced at the end of each term. This data gives an insight into progress made across the curriculum. It allows us to highlight subject areas that individuals are working at a below expected progress level.

There are 3 areas we look at prior to engaging Spydar. If these areas show no areas of concern linked to academic development then we move to step 4.

2

Arbour - Attendance
Attendance data can quickly give us an overview of a students engagement with school. We can highlight trends in attendance and begin to address overlying issues with the individual accessing school

IRIS - Behaviour
Behaviour data helps identify patterns of disruption, disengagement, or emotional challenges that hinder learning. By analysing this data, we can address underlying issues, improve support, and identify any trends relating to individual subjects.

3

CPOMS - Safeguarding & Wellbeing
This data tracks safeguarding, behaviour, and pastoral concerns, helping us identify patterns impacting student progress. By reviewing incidents, we can address underlying issues, provide targeted support, and improve academic outcomes.

Engaging with Spydar

If there are no areas of concern linked to attendance, behaviour or safeguarding data, then we can begin to pursue academic intervention through Spydar.

1

Subject Overview
Obtaining an overview of an individuals progress in all subjects allows us to identify 'spikes' and 'drops'. A spike would show 'above expected progress' whilst a drop would inform us of 'below expected or no progress'

2

Analysing
In the above data, the drop is displayed with the pink bar and the spike is shown with the green bar.
Maths (Number) is the subject showing as below expected progress.
History is the subject showing as above expected progress.
We now have

3

Curriculum Spydar Crawl
Once a subject has been identified as an area of interest, or showing as above expected progress, users can search the curriculum content and quickly discover the topic the student has engage well in. This will then become the starting point for a Spydar Scheme of Work.

Bespoke Schemes of Work

If there are no areas of concern linked to attendance, behaviour or safeguarding data, then we can begin to pursue academic intervention through Spydar.
