North West 1 Maths Hub are delighted to be working with Grange School to deliver a ‘Teaching for Mastery’ showcase. This will demonstrate the Mastery pedagogy and Maths curriculum that is embedded at Grange with an opportunity to meet and collaborate with Maths leads and practitioners from a range of specialist settings.  

 

Grange School is a specialist provision for pupils aged 4 -19 with a diagnosis of Autism. Located in Gorton, Manchester the setting currently has 252 pupils on roll with 64% pupil premium.

 

Grange School has developed a bespoke curriculum to ensure pupils know more and remember more. This includes a carefully curated Maths curriculum underpinned by key Mastery principles. Teaching for Mastery and research-based Maths teaching is a fundamental part of teaching and learning at Grange. In addition to this Grange School has an extensive curriculum enrichment offer , with a range of innovative areas from a life size role play village to a STEAM sand and water centre, these areas really bring learning to life allowing pupils to apply their learning through exploration, problem solving and reasoning.  

 

Grange School has worked closely with NW1 Maths Hub over the past 4 years, engaging with ongoing CPD and collaboration including Teaching for Mastery Readiness, Developing, Embedding and Sustaining. In addition to the whole schoolwork, teachers have developed their own pedagogy through Specialist Knowledge and Mastering Number CPD.  The Maths Hub partnership is led by Deputy Headteacher and Maths Lead Georgia Paton, who is part of the Mastery Specialist programme and will lead specialist school collaboration.
